Having grown up in small town America at the foot hills of the Pocono Mountains in northeast Pennsylvania, I was privileged to spend many hours alone and with friends hiking and camping in the woods along the Appalachian Trail. We had no concerns of harm from predators as we ventured away from home on foot or our bicycles.

These opportunities were further enhanced as a Boy Scout (Eagle Award) where with my friends we traveled across the USA attending national jamborees and camping opportunities with other American youth. Scouting encouraged me to achieve a sense of confidence, self-trust and curiosity to explore that has been a mainstay through my life. 

In later life my desire to commune with nature and to expand my horizons led me with intense passion to sailing and earning a captain's license. With MaryAnn, I have been privileged to cruise the waters of Belize, Greece, Tonga, British Virgin Islands as well as the Chesapeake Bay.
